Alan Winters serves as professor of accounting at Clemson University’s School of Accountancy and Legal Studies. Prior to joining the faculty of Clemson, he taught at the University of South Carolina and Louisiana State University. Mr. Winters is a former member of the AICPA’s Accounting and Review Services Committee and was responsible for creating SSARS No. 1 (which was the origin for the compilation and review engagements).
Mr. Winters also served as Director of Auditing Research at the AICPA and was responsible for developing the Statements on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAE). He also served as the AICPA’s technical advisor to the International Auditing Standards Board for over three years. In addition, Mr. Winters chaired the committee that developed SAS No. 55 on internal control and was the principal author of the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) report on internal control standards.
Mr. Winters has participated in the development of over 30 auditing standards during his career and has spoken to hundreds of groups on accounting and auditing issues. He is co-author of a leading accounting text book and has published numerous articles in academic and professional journals. In addition, Mr. Winters has written and presented numerous CPE courses and has received several teaching excellence awards. He has also worked in both public accounting and private industry and is a certified public accountant.
Mr. Winters resides in Clemson, SC with his wife, Janice, and enjoys music, reading, and training dogs.
